Here's a little breakdown of the full scene, made in Blender!
I had a lot of fun working on this piece, if you have any questions feel free to reach out!
Takopi final render!
Scene w/ no materials.
Scene w/ materials, no background.
The fumes from the rocket, the star consellations and the star effects were created with Blender's GreasePencil and animated in Blender.
The GP acts as a 2D plane layered over the elements in 3D space. In the scene, the drawn elements are much closer.
Shot of overall scene components.
The Grease Pencil is effectively a 2D plane in 3D space. With this, we can trick the camera using perspective to make it feel that there is much more depth In the scene.
Takopi's rocket w/ no shader and with shader.
I created a cartoon shader in blender which would be the base for each of the elements in the scene.
Side by side of Takopi W/ no shader and with shader!
I had also created a thick outline element for Takopi. There are multiple ways of doing this, but my method was by using vertex groups and modifiers mixed with a tweakable material.
First Pass W/ no Grease pencil.
This was useful for composition and to make sure everything made sense from the perspective of the camera!
